Welcome to the brand new Snookes website!

 

The name "Snookes" evolved from "Weymouth and Portland Snooker Club" because it’s an expression the lads referred to when they played Snooker on Tuesday nights,  “are you playing snookes tonight” it seemed short sweet and catchy so we went with it.

 

Our snooker club first started above the Texaco Garage by Asda before Dave Chalk (our predecessor) took the plunge to open the snooker club here at Caroline Place, he owned the club for 7 years.  

 

Mark has been a lifelong member of the club since he was around 16 years old and we took over the club in July 2009 as Dave wanted to retire and so he handed the reins over to us.

 

We heard what members were saying and what they wanted, how we could turn the club into something that people wanted to use. and, as fellow members, we thought we could inject some new enthusiasm and try and attract more members.  

 

Dave had already built up a good membership himself and we are now offering Snookes out into the community. We offer the club facilities to Weymouth College in an enrichment programme and to the foreign exchange students which come each year.  We also have some other groups in the summer from Tom Lane’s club steps, and some of the members from Tides etc come here to.
